Route 101 is committed to practices and activities that have a beneficial impact on society

We do this by supporting local charities, actively attempting to limit our carbon footprint and working closely with our suppliers to promote ethical practices and conduct.

Responsible business practices

Route 101 is committed to conducting business in an ethical and transparent manner through the promotion and education of honest conduct within our team.

Responsible behaviours are embedded in the Route 101 business model, and ensuring that our services and operations align with responsible behaviours commercially, ethically and socially is imperative.

Commercially, Route 101 is committed to the continuous development of high-quality solutions and services. Ethically, the business is always fair and truthful in its engagement with suppliers, stakeholders and customers.

Our charitable partner: Teenage Cancer Trust

As a socially conscious organisation, Route 101 takes an active role within the local community and beyond, supporting a programme of charitable activity.

This year, the business is partnering with Teenage Cancer Trust - a charity that provides vital support and specialist care for young people aged 13 to 24 facing cancer.

Every day, seven young people in the UK hear the words “you have cancer”. Teenage Cancer Trust puts young people in the best possible place, physically, mentally and emotionally, for their cancer treatment and beyond. The charity does this through expert nurses, support teams and hospital units, and is the only UK charity dedicated to providing this specialist care.

Route 101’s partnership will focus on raising funds, increasing awareness and bringing the team together in support of a cause that makes a real difference. Collaborating with Teenage Cancer Trust gives our employees the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work, strengthen our sense of community and help ensure that young people receive the care and support they deserve. Route 101 is recognised as a Real Living Wage Employer

LW_Employer_0 This accreditation reflects our ongoing commitment to fair pay, respect, and responsibility - ensuring that every member of our team earns a wage that meets the real cost of living, not just the government minimum.

The Living Wage Foundation’s real Living Wage remains the only UK wage rate independently  calculated based on the cost of living, rising annually based on living costs.

Sustainability ImageApproach to sustainability

Route 101 provides quality service in a way that manages, controls, and wherever possible reduces our environmental impact and carbon footprint.

As a cloud systems integrator, we promote sustainability through the cloud-based services we deliver, which reduce hardware needs and improve communication, helping to minimise travel.

Some of the key ways we drive environmental sustainability are:

  • Integrating environmental considerations into decision-making and day-to-day activities.

  • Disposing of electrical items through the second-user market or in line with WEEE recycling directives.

  • Reducing travel through collaborative technology and supportive policies, including secure bike storage to encourage eco-friendly commuting.

  • Minimising waste and recycling wherever possible, with office-wide recycling stations and weekly collections.

  • Recycling and reusing ink cartridges via a charitable service that benefits both the environment and good causes.

Tackling climate change

Route 101 is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with a strategic ambition to accelerate this target to 2035. Our Carbon Reduction Plan sets out clear targets in line with the UK Government’s Procurement Policy Note PPN 006, including a 50% reduction in absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 2030, and a 90% reduction by 2050, measured against our 2021 baseline. These efforts are supported by our ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System, which underpins our commitment to continuous improvement in environmental performance.

We are actively reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions through the installation of solar panels at our headquarters, replacing heating oil-based systems, and exploring further energy efficiency measures. Our commitment to waste reduction includes eliminating single-use plastics in office environments and achieving zero waste to landfill. Recognising that business travel is our largest source of emissions, we are developing a sustainable travel policy that promotes low-carbon alternatives and supports flexible working to minimise travel-related impact.

Oversight of our carbon reduction strategy is provided by our ESG Committee, ensuring that environmental responsibility remains central to our business decisions and long-term planning.

BCNPMember of Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership (BCNP)

Our Bristol base makes this especially important: we operate in the city, serve its organisations, and depend on its environment.
