Responsible business practices

Route 101 is committed to conducting business in an ethical and transparent manner through the promotion and education of honest conduct within our team.

Responsible behaviours are embedded in the Route 101 business model, and ensuring that our services and operations align with responsible behaviours commercially, ethically and socially is imperative.

Commercially, Route 101 is committed to the continuous development of high-quality solutions and services. Ethically, the business is always fair and truthful in its engagement with suppliers, stakeholders and customers.

Our charitable partner: CALM

As a socially conscious organisation, Route 101 takes an active role within the local community and further afield, supporting a programme of charitable activity.

The business is working with our chosen charity partner for the year, CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) on a programme of fundraising, support and awareness generation.

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), is a charity that is taking a stand against suicide. This means standing against feeling rubbish, standing up to stereotypes, and standing together to show life is always worth living.

As one of CALM’s corporate supporters, Route 101 will work to raise awareness and break down the stigma around mental well-being and suicide. It is extremely important to the business that we have a charity that resonates with our employees, and as a charitable partner directly chosen by our team, CALM’s work does just that.

Approach to sustainability

Route 101 provides quality service in a manner that manages, controls and wherever possible reduces our environmental impact and carbon footprint.

As a cloud systems integrator, we promote sustainability through the cloud-based services that we provide, which offer a much smaller hardware footprint and improved communication channels which leads to a reduction in travel.

Some of the key ways we drive environmental sustainability are:

  • Integrate environmental concerns into our decision-making and resultant activities.
  • Dispose of electrical items either to the second user market or in accordance with current WEEE recycling directives where reuse is not possible.
  • Minimise travelling with the use of improved collaborative technology and complementary company policy. We also provide secure bike storage to encourage eco-friendly methods of travel.
  • Minimise waste and reuse/recycle as much as possible. We recycle on a weekly basis, with recycling stations in each room and kitchen within the office.
  • Recycle/reuse ink cartridges, using a charitable recycling service which benefits both charitable organisations and the environment.

Tackling Climate Change

Route 101 is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with a strategic ambition to accelerate this target to 2035. Our Carbon Reduction Plan sets out clear targets in line with the UK Government’s Procurement Policy Note PPN 006, including a 50% reduction in absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 2030, and a 90% reduction by 2050, measured against our 2021 baseline. These efforts are supported by our ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System, which underpins our commitment to continuous improvement in environmental performance.

We are actively reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions through the installation of solar panels at our headquarters, replacing heating oil-based systems, and exploring further energy efficiency measures. Our commitment to waste reduction includes eliminating single-use plastics in office environments and achieving zero waste to landfill. Recognising that business travel is our largest source of emissions, we are developing a sustainable travel policy that promotes low-carbon alternatives and supports flexible working to minimise travel-related impact.

Oversight of our carbon reduction strategy is provided by our ESG Committee, ensuring that environmental responsibility remains central to our business decisions and long-term planning.
